Remote Training Collar Review and Guide
04 Feb 2010
As our new puppy started maturing, she gradually began to roam freely around the neighborhood. He’s not really an aggresive dog. Therefore, we never thought it would be a problem.
Our dog loves to travel with us. He will go to great lengths to explore new surroundings.
I programmed the units to match the yard, ie, one unit at the skinny part of the yard is on less than full power so it gives coverage in the yards and to the street, the other unit is at full power so it gives as much coverage as possible into the wide part of the yard. This one also covers the driveway on the front of the house.
The collar is nylon, one size fits all. Trim off the extra when putting it on smaller dogs. Before placing the collar on the dog, there is a video and detailed instructions to guide you through the set-up, and training procedure for your dog. They highly suggest you follow them step-by-step to prevent confusion. The training process takes about six weeks. With the flags gradually being removed over the next few months.
The other day, I noticed that he wasn’t going into one of the zones. I checked the fence, and it had stopped working. I opened it up and discovered that the fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse, but it blew the new one too. The box for the Instant Fence claims a lifetime warranty. I called Petsafe and they are sending me a new one free. All I have to do is return the old one within 2 weeks of receiving the replacement.
Now, I can open the door and let him out without fear that he will run off. I would highly recommend this product for anyone who has a defiant dog. It will keep the dog in the perimeter.
I worried about the “shock” but soon discovered that the neck collar beeps to let the dog know that it will shock soon if they wander any farther. The shock is actually more like a static electricity shock if you set it on a low setting – and that’s all I’ve needed for my headstrong Annie. She is more frightened by the crackling noise than the shock itself.
We are extremely happy with this product. We were skeptical that it would work, after reading another review because we live on a city lot with hydro lines running along the back and one side of our property. We haven’t had any problems with interference from the power lines and the boundary sits just in under or in front of the lines.
